Beginning with the advent of mass democratic politics in the 1940s, a new generation of politician adopted this style, known as "fine," or "beautiful Tamil" (centamil), for its distinct literary virtuosity, poesy, and alluring evocation of a pure Tamil past.

Bernard Bate explores the centamil phenomenon, arguing that the genre's spectacular literacy and use of ceremonial procession, urban political ritual, and posters, praise poetry are critical components in the production of a singularly Tamil mode of political modernity: a Dravidian neoclassicism. From his perspective, the centamil revolution and Dravidian neoclassicism suggest that modernity is not the mere successor of tradition but the production of tradition, and that this production is a primary modality of modernity, a new newness-albeit a newness of old things.

Daniel Pick is a psychoanalyst and historian. Alongside his private clinical practice, he is Professor of History at Birkbeck College, University of London, a fellow of the British Psychoanalytical Society and of the Royal Historical Society. I love this author and this series

I love this author and this series. However this one was at times hard to follow. If you haven't read the others do not try to read this one. Second half of the story had so many different perspectives from so many different characters from all the previous novels that you would be extremely confused and unable to follow. Overall, its a good story with good characters that tug at your feelings, but she tries to fit so much of the past characters into the story that you tend to get overwhelmed and have to go back a page or two to reread and try to figure out what each character is responding to. I think she tried to fit too much into this story to tie it to the past ones and ended up loosing the main characters a little in the end. If you have read the others then maybe you can follow it better than I did.

Good, but sometimes a bit hard to follow

I have enjoyed the whole series, and I love the underlying sense of humor and whimsy. I do feel like there may have been a little too much going on with the various POVs. It would have been better to stick with the two main characters, I was confused at times and it pulled me out of the story trying to sort things out.

I want start this review off on a positive note. I am a big fan of this writer and have all her books that being said this was my least favorite of all her books. I was a little hesitant to get this book because it was about Kert but I got it regardless. I love the way she made me adore Kert, his character had so many layers which made him lovable. Kisme however the character wasn't as lovable and I know she was going for the whole opposite attract ... tough girl sweet guy but i think she missed the mark. The story was ok but as the other reviews noted, there where to many points of views, to many side stories at times it was so confusing that i had to re-read two or three times and I still felt like I was missing something. I also felt that there was'nt enough focus at the couple and their relationship. Not to mention the whole relationship with Kert and his mother. She came off rather selfish in a way and a bit unlikable, so did Dar's dad. I mean really the mom moves in with her boyfriend keeps it a secret for two months and pretends to live with Kert as has sex at her adults sons house on his furniture. Its bad enough finding you parents doing that but a boyfriend and in your house and the mom acts all hurt. Yes Kert might be a mom's boy but she made him that way not to mention that is that issues where he felt the need to protect his mother because of past abuse. So she let's her boyfriend call the shot and cuts off communication. am I the only one who see that as weird... There is more that the mom does but for some who has a close relationship with her son she sure kicks him to the curb quick.. I know there is so many i can say about this book but the many point it is a very confusing story. I wouldn't recommend this story but if its your first time reading this author I would try any of the others stories.

About the Author
Daphne du Maurier (1907 - 89) was born in London, the daughter of the famous actor-manager Sir Gerald du Maurier and granddaughter of George du Maurier, the author and artist. She began writing short stories and articles in 1928 and in 1931 her first novel, THE LOVING SPIRIT, was published. It was the novel REBECCA that launched her into the literary stratosphere and made her one of the most popular authors of all time.

More Background Information for Du Maurier Fans

I've read the other reviews and decided to add something new that has not yet been mentioned here before, but might be of interest to a few Du Maurier fans who plan a trip to Fowey in Cornwall, UK.

The most interesting chapters in this autobiographical book are the ones on how Du Maurier got inspired to write "Rebecca" while she and her husband were in Egypt and the "House of Secrets" chapter in which she talks about the time when she discovered the house 15 years earlier as a young girl vacationing in Fowey, Cornwall, with her parents and two sisters.
But I also got a lot out of her chapter on aging and widowhood.

What I enjoyed particularly was the fact that the autobiographical chapters have been put together in chronological order, so you can read the book from the first to the last page and notice that the next chapter is taking place later in Du Maurier's life and so on.

I've read all her novels and her (auto)biographies starting with
- The Glass Blowers (this is about her ancestors who immigrated from France to England during the French Revolution)
- Mary Anne (another ancestor who was the mistress of a British aristocrat)
- George DuMaurier (Daphne's grandfather who became famous for the magazine "Punch" and his novel "Trilby")
- Gerald Du Maurier (Daphne's father, a popular stage actor and later theater director in London)
- Growing Pains (Daphne's memoir from when she was a child until her honeymoon where she got inspired to write her wonderful novel "Frenchman's Creek")
In-between I would suggest reading Margaret Forster's biography which offers more information on Daphne's life
- The Rebecca Notebook (the last chapter was written by Daphne Du Maurier a few years, before her demise)

The special thing about Du Maurier is her love for certain houses/mansions. The locations in her books are all real and almost more important than the protagonists. I've been to Cornwall twice in my life and have seen the Helford River (satyed on the opposite side of Frenchman's Creek and also was on the Creek side and walked down from Donna St. Columb's house, I found Menabilly (crossed the property illegally :)), Kilmarth (her last home close to Menabilly), Fowey, their first house Ferryside opposite of Fowey in Boddinick, Readymony Cove next to Catherine's Castle in Fowey (where Daphne lived after she was able to rent her dream house while Menabilly was renovated), but I still haven't seen Cannon Hall in London.
However, I did the long walk mentioned in Forster's biography starting at Ferryside leading uphill and saw all the places mentioned.
I stopped several times at Jamaica Inn in Bodmin Moor, too.

After you are familiar with "Rebecca", I can highly recommend reading "Frenchman's Creek", "The House on the Strand" (taking place in Kilmarth plus there is a Bodrugan's Leap to which public has access) and "The King's General" (another Menabilly novel with a real background and real existing people as protagonists (check out the metal plate hanging inside the church in Tywardreath, Cornwall, look for Honor Harris)).

Up close and personal with Daphne du Maurier... and Rebecca

Having recently devoured most of her novels and short stories, and having read a fictional account about her, I've decided to read one of Daphne du Maurier's autobiographies. I was not able to obtain a copy of Myself When Young, her first memoir, but I did manage to obtain a library copy of The Rebecca Notebook and Other Memories.

This wonderful book contains notes, musings and rough drafts of Rebecca when the novel was still a work-in-progress. Du Maurier also recalls aspects of her first years of marriage and her first impressions of her home estate called Menabilly. She also gives insights into her mind as she focuses on her work. Rebecca is very much loved among readers, and having this account of how its creator comes about writing it while going through some personal growth herself is fascinating. The book, while insightful, doesn't compare to her novels though. (Hence the three stars.) It is also quite short. I was able to finish rather quickly. Still, this is a good thing to read if you're a fan of this author. I have read about Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and others, and wanted to read about this author -- from her own pen at that! I very much look forward to reading either Myself When Young or The Du Mauriers. There is also The Daphne du Maurier Companion and other biographies that talk about her supposed extramarital affairs and rumored bisexuality, which Ms. Du Maurier remarks upon by way of her "male alter ego" Richard Young in The House on the Strand. Those books all seem interesting, but in the meantime get this at the library if available.

I enjoyed this book even more than "Rebecca," as she talks about what was going on in her life and gives so many personal insights to Daphne the woman and the writer.

I just adore this series!

Ok, so I've read all the books so far, but this one is hilarious. Cade is normally so calm and easy, even if intense, but now, he's lost his mind. Seriously, I was in a fit of giggles with this one. And to see him drag everyone else with him for all his sweet, yet crazy ideas. I mean I kept thinking that is a bad idea, but you know what they say about good intentions. And put a bunch of men together while freaking out is just a recipe for disastrous hilarity. :) And poor Anna has to put up with all that. Thought he's worth it most of the time :) LOL I absolutely loved this. It was a short and sweet treat while we are waiting for the next book. Which I can't wait to see how the Texas people go for our Louisiana boys :) LOVE IT! 5 Wolfy PAWS!

Cade is driving Anna crazy. He is so over protective and treats her like she will break. She is pregnant not made of glass. He is determined to make everything easy for Anna. She shouldn't have to lift a finger. For every bright idea he has he enlists the help of his brothers and stepsons. Once all the men get together what can go wrong does. I laughed so much through this book. How four grown men can make such a disaster was beyond me. I guess Cade and Anna have been my favorites since the first book. They were the first ones I feel in love with and it is so wonderful reading about them starting their family. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A GREAT follow-up!

If you have read Cade, you will love the follow-up, I promise. If you have not read Cade I urge you to read it first. All of our favorite Le Beau family are here, with lots of laughs, and more. This is Cade' s first child and the book follows him and Anna and their friends and family through Anna's pregnancy. I loved watching this family go through the start of a new chapter in Cade & Anna's lives. And I can't wait to read of the baby growing up. Oh and I can't wait fir Richie' s story that I'd up next. In the meantime I have 5 Le Beau books to 're-read! Thanks for another great book V A! 5 stars!

Dr. Rajkumar Buyya is a Fellow of IEEE, Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council, and Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is also serving as the founding CEO of Manjrasoft, a spin-off company of the University, commercializing its innovations in Cloud Computing. He has authored over 500 publications and four text books including "Mastering Cloud Computing" published by McGraw Hill, China Machine Press, and Elsevier/Morgan Kaufmann for Indian, Chinese and international markets respectively. He is one of the highly cited authors in computer science and software engineering worldwide. "A Scientometric Analysis of Cloud Computing Literature" by German scientists ranked Dr. Buyya as the World's Top-Cited (#1) Author and the World's Most-Productive (#1) Author in Cloud Computing. This textbook lays first the background about the core concepts of the Cloud Computing; namely, the Parallel & Distributed Computing and the Virtualization. Then, the authors reveal the concept of Cloud Computing in détail. In addition, the authors explain a CC environment: Aneka. Therefore, the reader may skip the first part if it is well known and target Part 2 directly about CC.
This book is excellent in laying the course syllabus about CC in universities for both senior levels Undergrads and postgraduate students.

Handy positioning book for Rad Tech student.

This book is very simple but covers all of the basic positions. I found the fluoro section to be a bit skimpy but the rest was nice. There is lots of room next to the text to make alterations if necessary. The cover has plastic in it so it will not get ruined very easily. Spiral bound and it stays together nicely. Each chapter is organized so that they can be flipped to quickly according to body part location.

Great Handbook

Spiral binding makes this very easy to use. Keep it in your labcoat if you change rooms. I leave mine right on the panel. Went to work at an urgent care and I needed a brush up after years of MRI. You will like it at a student or an out of practice Old Timer. Illustrations of angles and distances are great. Covers most diagnostic work.

I am a student and we are given Merrill's pocket guide. This book has more information on each projection. It helps me.
