About the Author
Mark Grinblatt, University of California at Los Angeles, Ph.D. Yale Mark Grinblatt is Professor of Finance at UCLA’s Anderson School, where he currently serves as chair of the Finance area, and where he began his career in 1981. He is also a director on the board of Salomon Swapco, Inc., a consultant to numerous firms, and serves as an associate editor of Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. From 1987 to 1989, Professor Grinblatt was a visiting professor at the Wharton School and while on leave from UCLA in 1989 and 1990, he was a vice-president for Salomon Brothers, Inc., valuing complex derivatives for the fixed income arbitrage trading group in the firm. Professor Grinblatt is a noted teacher at UCLA, having been awarded teacher of the year in 1993 for UCLA’s Fully-Employed MBA Program by a vote of the students. This award was based on his teaching of a course designed around early drafts of this textbook. Professor Grinblatt’s areas of expertise include investments, performance evaluation of fund managers, fixed income markets, corporate finance and derivatives.

Sheridan Titman, University of Texas at Austin, Ph.D. Carnegie Mellon Sheridan Titman holds the Walter W. McAllister Centennial Chair in Financial Services at the University of Texas. He is also a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a consultant to a number of firms. Professor Titman began his academic career in 1980 at UCLA, where he served as the department chair for the finance group and as the Vice Chairman of the UCLA management school faculty. He has designed executive education programs in corporate financial strategy at UCLA and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, based on material developed for this textbook. In the 1988-89 academic year Professor Titman worked in Washington, D.C., as the special assistant to Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy, where he analyzed proposed legislation related to the stock and future markets, leveraged buyouts and takeovers. Between 1992 and 1994, he served as a founding professor of the school of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where his duties included the vice chairmanship of the faculty and chairmanship of the faculty appointments committee. From 1994 to 1997 he was the John J. Collins, S.J. Chair in International Finance at Boston College. Professor Titman’s areas of expertise include investments, performance evaluation of portfolio managers, corporate finance and real estate. He is an editor of the Review of Financial Studies and serves on the board of a number of other finance and real estate journals. He is a past director of the American Finance Association and a current director of the Asia Pacific Finance Association.

Don't get me wrong, Viola's books are always fast paced, well crafted, well developed and well edited and truly, a pleasure to read but it's her characters that I fall in love with every single time. Her characters are always unique, captivating, engaging and endearing but she creates, hands down, the best, grumpy, growly, quite possibly irredeemable and certainly the most arrogant male antiheroes of anyone I know. You know, the kind we love to hate but secretly love.and of course, are always devilishly handsome.(Swoon....) And the male protagonist in this story is no exception. Viola skillfully combines all of these elements to craft a delightfully entertaining paranormal tale filled to the brim with heart-pounding danger, heartbreaking drama, heart-stopping action, spine-tingling adventure and let's not forget, steamy, dreamy romance. When I read a Viola Rivard story, I'm always reminded of the Carly Simon song, Nobody Does It Better. The words replay in my mind: Nobody does it better, Makes me feel sad for the rest, Nobody does it half as good as you, Baby you're the best. And Viola definitely is the best! Buckle up my lovelies! It's another wild ride! And this time, we travel to the tundra of the Arctic for our story.

Twenty-eight year old Astrid Castello is very much out of her element. As a native Floridian, the climate of the Arctic tundra definitely does not agree with her and it's all her younger sister Ginnifer's fault. Months ago, her sister traveled to the Arctic to film a documentary on the way of life of werewolf packs living in the area and after finishing her film, she returned to the Siluit Pack and Zane, their alpha, is holding her prisoner. If her sister isn't already dead and Astrid can somehow manage to rescue her, then she's going to kill her for this. She doesn't even really like her sister but here she is, neck deep in trouble in the Arctic, trying to rescue her sister for her parents' sake. Yes, it's for them because she doesn't want to tell them that their favored daughter has traveled back to Nunuvat to live with the Siluit werewolf pack. And it has cost her everything including all her money! Well, technically the twelve thousand dollars she paid for her guides was actually Ginnifer's money since she withdrew(stole) it from Ginnifer's bank account but she wouldn't have had to do it if Ginnifer had stayed at home instead of traipsing all over the globe as a freelance documentary filmmaker. And now, she finds herself in the middle of nowhere with a group of men who started out as her very kind guides but had now turned into a group of opportunists who were only interested in poaching the furs of werewolves and probably murdering her. Her plan was to travel to the location of the Amarok Pack and try to make a deal with their Alpha, Erik, to enlist his help in recovering her sister from the rival Siluit Pack where her sister is being held. Unfortunately, her meeting with the Amarok Pack did not go as planned. She has seriously underestimated the sheer and savagery of the werewolves because the wolves of the Amarok pack have just slaughtered all of her very questionable guides, leaving only her alive. Oh my! Erik is a handsome, arrogant, ruthless and very selfish wolf who is determined to have things his way and unfortunately, there's only one deal the Alpha is willing to accept - her. Huh? Oh yes, Erik demands that she give herself willingly to him in exchange for him helping to rescue her sister. Oh my goodness! What's a girl to do? Why, make a deal, of course! Sadly, Astrid soon realizes that she has truly sacrificed everything to rescue her sister from the clutches of a demon and in the process, has ended up selling her own soul to the devil. Oh my! Will Astrid somehow manage to save her sister and herself or will she be Erik's new plaything until he grows tired of her and gives her to another wolf???
Book Two:
The story continues with Astrid struggling to find her place in the pack while learning exactly what being owned by Erik entails. At the same time, Erik is desperately struggling to control his wolf, something he has never had a problem with before. Apparently his beast believes that Astrid is his mate and is determined to have her and only her.Oh my! Will Erik be able to maintain his control or will he lose the battle to his wolf??? Will Astrid be able to convince Erik to rescue her sister from the Siluit Pack??? No spoilers from me but I will say this......Arrogant, ruthless, dominant Alpha wolf who takes what he wants regardless of the consequences and may just be irredeemable-check! Curvaceous, naive heroine who is on a mission to save her sister and may just talk the alpha wolf to death-check! A sister who is 'supposedly' being held captive by a rival werewolf pack-check! A cast of wonderful characters-check! Danger, drama, action, adventure and enemies galore-check! Unconventional romance and steamy sex-check! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for Book Three! Seriously sexy, completely captivating and delightfully entertaining!

Alpha wolf making changes for his mate

Well, Erik is having quite a bit of trouble silencing his wolf to not think about Astrid. Since his wolf has become more possessive, it'll be interesting to see if he can still give her to his brother Sten once Erik has grown tired of her.
Astrid is learning her way within the pack. I do believe she is starting to realize that she means something to Erik but he is really good at playing his mind game of knocking her down a few notches.
I wonder how his sleeping so deeply works into the story. He either has fought his wolf for so long and since they are not one it wears him out or something is wrong with him. Poor Erik, things could just be easier for him if he wasn't so overbearing. But I do understand where he's coming from in wanting to keep the pack in line and safe along with their territory from being taken from them or invaded.
This story just keeps getting better and better. Can't expect that every story line is going to be wolf meets mate, live happily ever after with no bumps in the road. Life isn't that way. That's what makes things interesting in this story.
This is a must read.

When you dont want to love him but cant help it.

I was so sure that Erik would come around alittle more in the 2nd installment. But true to his character he never disappoints. He is drawn to Astrid but tries to shake it off. Little does he know that his wolf has other plans for him with her. Waking up next to her he slept the best sleep he ever had which I think is why he is so disterbed by it. Never should he behave the way he is so he thinks. His brother Sven has already told him what he already knew which is that Astrid will ruin him when its all over. She makes him feel more alive and more caring something he doesnt wasnt. He hopes that he can get a hold of his feelings. Mean while Astrid is futher from the team that is going to look for her sister in a year. She's trying to get him to budge. Just when she thinks she has him figured out he says something so horrible that you wish you could slap his face for it. I really cant wait to see whats in store for them in book 3.

Kevin O’Leary is one of North America’s most successful business entrepreneurs, as well as a star of ABC’s Shark Tank. Great General Life/Money Advice, Lousy Investment Advice

I'll presume that most potential readers of Mr. O'Leary's book are fans of the show Shark Tank, so I'll spare them the introduction of Mr. Wonderful. We all know him as the acerbic, money-oriented, bottom-line investor who can reduce an accomplished entrepreneur to tears in seconds. For that reason, it was fun to see his more human side in this book. He distributes excellent financial and life advice for people of all ages and in differing situations. He explains how to think about money, how to develop good money karma, and how to save on all of life's big events. In his no-nonsense style, he disburses blunt, sometimes controversial advice such as:

* Don't have kids. Ok, you can have them, but really think it through since they're little money spongers and we all know couples who decided they didn't need kids and are happy;

* Consider skipping college and going into a trade like plumbing or electrical. (This tidbit was my favorite.) He administers a short personality test and explains that some people are made for college and some are not. For those who are not, they may find more enjoyment, and yes money, pursuing an internship in an old-fashioned trade. This was a pleasant counter point to the nonstop media barrage that every kid should go to college even if it means taking on back-breaking debt;

* Consider renting, not buying a home;

* Consider living without a car;

* Don't confuse indulgences (such as boats, certain home renovations, vacation houses) with investments.

Much of what he discussed will be familiar to those who enjoy personal finance literature, but Mr. Wonderful delivers with a catchy writing style, a down-to-earth tone, and his famous wit. After reading this, I'd love to sit down and have dinner with him. (His treat, of course.)

The reason I gave the book four stars instead of five is that I was really disappointed with Mr. O'Leary's investment advice. Throughout the book he discussed ways to save money on everything from weddings to funerals, but when it came to investments he consistently advised people to find an investment adviser and blindly follow his/her advice. Scores of personal finance literature, especially from the Boglehead school of thought, teach that the adviser fees, as well as load and expenses on mutual funds and ETFs, are some of the biggest reasons many people fail to achieve financial independence. With just a few hours of reading, most people can learn to be successful do-it-yourself buy and hold index fund investors. In one of the late chapters, Mr. O'Leary alluded to "his" line of mutual funds. I looked them up (O'Leary Funds) and picked one at random to investigate. Sure enough it has sky-high annual fees in excess of 2% as well as a ridiculous 3% back end load. No wonder Mr. Wonderful kept referring to 4% as a realistic annual investment target when most finance professionals are telling people 6% nowadays. With Mr. O'Leary's funds, his company keeps the other 2%!

That said, I believe Mr. O'Leary is really trying to help people with his book and I found most of the advice to be spot on. I suggest reading the book, but avoid the specific investment advice (aside from diversification which IS good advice) and instead focus on the bigger themes. He certainly wasn't trying to push his funds in the book, but I believe he has a conflict of interest which probably prevented him from saying what I imagine he really believes in relation to mutual fund costs which is that they suck the life out of an investment portfolio and investors should stick to fund families like Vanguard and Fidelity for whom low fees are built into their DNA.

Loved it

Kevin is not my favourite character on Dragon's Den as he often seems to be too harsh, and also I find the extent of his proclaimed love for money a bit appalling. However, what I like and respect about his character is that he always remains true to himself. That was one of the reason I have decided to pick up this book for my next read.

The book turned out to be entertaining, well written and quite self-disclosing. The book does not leave me wondering about some pages of his life - he provides the detailed narrative starting with his childhood, ancestry, parents (I loved that part of the book - it tells me a lot about where he is coming from and why he is the way he is; also, the characters were so vividly written that I could totally see them). Then he is moving on to the young years and the way he got into business; he also does not leave out the controversial period in his biography such as Mattel deal that was named in Wikipedia to be one of the worst acquisitions in the history of business. After reading about this deal in Wikipedia first, I was curious to read O'Leary's take on the events, and his version of the events sounds quite plausible.

The book is a mix of the memoirs and business /life lessons that are presented in the form of quizzes or "take out" points. Even if you don't agree with his philosophy I think you still may find some food for thoughts and at least will see things from a different perspective. To me, the book was refreshing and energizing. I'm not an entrepreneurial type, but I've found a lot of ideas that I could apply to my life.

The only guy giving you the cold, hard, truth.

This is an outstanding and amazing book. I consider it a book about personal finance and the philosophy (and exact details) of how to manage your money.

A lot of the advice, you won't like (how to manage family and money for example) but it is sound. The author provides practical solutions to almost every point in life (from a college education, to getting married and divorced, to getting older).

Let me be clear this is not a book about Mr. Wonderful's life and rise to riches.

This is a knock on the head book telling you the things you NEED to do. Not necessarily to be mega wealthy but definitely to keep from being destitute and poor.

This book is set up with the first part talking a little about O'Leary's family and the attitude you need to have about money.

After that O'Leary talks about the different stages of life and the financial things you need to do. In many cases this isn't rocket science but O'Leary's splash of colder water in your face is well worth the price of this book.

About the Author
Andrew J. Nelson is Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business, where he teaches courses in strategy and entrepreneurship. He received his Ph.D. and B.A. degrees from Stanford University and his M.Sc. from Oxford University. Prior to joining the University of Oregon, he held the post of Lecturer in management science and engineering at Stanford University. Dr. Nelson is well known for his research into university-based entrepreneurship

Richard C. Dorf is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Professor of Management at the University of California, Davis. He is author of Introduction to Electric Circuits (7th Ed.), Modern Control Systems (10th Ed.), Handbook of Electrical Engineering (3rd Ed.), Handbook of Engineering (2nd Ed.), and Handbook of Technology Management. He is the co-founder of six technology firms and was recently elected a Fellow Member in The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE)in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Society.

Tom Byers is Professor of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University and founder of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, which is dedicated to accelerating high-technology entrepreneurship education and creating scholarly research on technology-based firms. Expensive but very comprehensive

Technology Ventures is a book that I'll be keeping for a long time. It is a bit expensive (it's a text book, so this is not unexpected), but unlike many other books, you'll probably keep this one.

It covers the basics of launching a business, and it discusses legal issues, marketing, and HR in an engaging format.

Who should read this book:
If you have an academic background in technology, and want to launch a new business, this book will be perfect for you

Who should not read this book:
If you are looking for a quick, light read, this book will be too much for you. Also, if you're looking for information about social media marketing tactics, this book won't really help you

What I like about this book is that it really provides you with everything you need to know about launching a technology company. It covers everything, from the conception stage, to the legal issues. It is taught to Stanford students, and with good reason; its a very good book.

Buy this only if you have to

The title says it all - if it is a required book for your class then get it. I got this beginning of 2012 when I finishing my senior year in college. As an electrical engineering major, I referred to my textbooks a great deal. I actually kept most of my textbooks from undergrad (I may be a bit of a hoarder), but not this one. The reason was simple, I didn't find this book to be particularly useful. I took an entrepreneurship course that required this book. This book has very basic econ mixed in with real world examples. It will talk about strategies of a start-up business and then discuss how amazon/google/p&g/etc. do so well. Honestly it is like a blended in version of econ and wikipedia, so not so good.

I feel that most textbooks bought on this site are school related so you have to get it. But if there is a choice, I would go with a different book.

Layout is weird and text is hard to read

Well the layout is a little weird. Not like normal textbooks but it is broken up by main sections then by subsections and I honestly didn't read much more than the 3rd or 4th chapter because of the way it was written. The text is a light blue color which makes it somewhat hard to read for long periods of time. Starts to blend in with the white paper.

The content was dry and nothing I hadn't really learned in marketing or entrepreneurship classes.

EDIT: I guess the 4th edition had black ink. This review is for the 3rd addition.

Rebeca's posts about eating and moving like the French have had more than a million shares on social media since 2014. Her book "Lessons From France: Eating, Fitness, Family" discusses the simplicity and efficiency of well-being in France, and guides readers into adapting these principles to increase overall well-being and pleasure.

Rebeca has lived in France for more than 15 years; she and her husband are raising three children in the Southeastern corner of France, near the Alps. inspiring a Healthy Lifestyle

Lessons From France is a well-organized and comprehensive book written by the creator of the French website Fit to Inspire in collaboration with an expert stylist, a nutritionist, and a writer. These busy moms share their wisdom on fostering a healthy lifestyle with occasional indulgences while realistically balancing the demands of work and family through stories, tips, meal planning, meal timing, recipes, entertaining, and even a full fitness program. What better gift can a person give to themselves and their family than health and happiness?

Highly recommend this book!

This is a wonderfully inspiring read for many of us Americans that are ultra concerned about slimming down and obsessed with dieting. The authors show us that long-term health and sustainable, positive eating habits are more about shifting mentality and not starving ourselves. Although the philosophy is simple, French culture is right on point: relax, enjoy the food you're eating, eat with your family, and practice mindful living. We can all sigh in relief because we CAN have our cake and eat it too!

A Terrific Book

I love the advice in this book and am a big believer in the French/Italian approach to eating and life. Some of the tips are so simple but can get lost in the "busy ness" of American life. Drink water, set meal times, eat whole food. Rebecca and her co-writers live and breath the American/French way of life incorporating the best of both worlds. This book is a wonderful way to keep on track with a healthy life style for you and your family. Highly recommend!
